When we hit a certain age mark, makeup can make us look older than we really are. It can accentuate the things we are trying to hide, making all the effort and time we’ve put into it go to waste. After a couple of failed experiments, the only thing we dare to wear is a tinted lip balm. But makeup is a powerful tool, we just need to learn how to use it in the right way. Here are some tips and tricks for applying makeup when you are over 50.
The secret to flawlessly looking makeup is the right base. You should always start with moisturizer and eye cream. Everything sits better on top of well-hydrated skin.
A foundation primer should always be in your makeup bag. It helps to minimize the look of large pores, prevents foundation from settling into lines and adds extra radiance to your skin.
The best foundation for mature skin has either a cream or liquid consistency. If your skin is relatively clear with zero to no pigmentation and pimples then liquid foundation is your choice. A cream consistency works better for covering age spots and broken capillaries.
Concealer should be applied on top of foundation and should match its color perfectly. Don’t apply too much of it because it will look cakey. For covering dark circles, stay away from concealers lighter than your skin tone because it will only make them look worse.
Swap liquid liners for eye pencils. Eye pencils have a softer look and you can smudge them with your fingertips to make the look a little bit more smokey. You can also apply an eyeshadow with an angled brush to create a softer-looking line.
Use a cream blush and highlighter instead of powder ones. They will make you look more radiant and fresh. For lips choose lipsticks that have a satin finish.
When you age you should use “less is more” as your mantra when it comes to makeup. Don’t pile on your makeup products, use them as a way to accentuate your natural beauty.
